A woman who survived a car crash that killed three children and a woman was pronounced dead at a hospital in Washington state on Wednesday, police said.
The mother of the children was seriously injured, and the woman’s daughter died in hospital, the Washington State Patrol said.
The crash happened about 2 p.m. in a residential neighborhood on the north side of Seattle near the state capitol, about 100 yards (meters) away from where the women were riding their bicycles on a trail.
Witnesses said the car driven by the mother of two hit the women in the back of the head, and they fell.
One woman was ejected, but survived.
A witness told local television station KIRO-TV the woman was a mother of four.
“It just seems like it was just a dumb accident, but this is a big family,” said a witness who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media.
The woman’s husband was also in the car, and he was taken to a hospital for evaluation.
The three children, ages 2, 6 and 11, were flown to Seattle Children’s Hospital with minor injuries, the police department said.
They are in stable condition, police Sgt. Eric Moller said.
