The Vicksberg Post Mall in the heart of town has collapsed after power outages hit the mall as of 3:30 p.m.
The Vickersburg Post Office, which has been closed since the power outage on Jan. 6, was reopened on Thursday morning.
The mall will be closed until Friday.
The mall is located on the north side of the Vicksville Post Office and is home to the Vickersville Post Exchange, which operates the post office.
According to the mall’s website, the post exchange opened in 1950.
Vicksburg Mayor Brian O’Brien issued a statement saying the mall is closed and the mall will remain closed until the mall can be reconstructed.
“The Vicksburgh Post Mall is closed due to power outfalls that hit the main entrance, parking lot and the adjacent post office on Thursday, January 5th,” the statement read.
“The Vickersburgh Post Exchange is also closed as of this time due to the loss of power and the surrounding area.
All other mall operations are still in place and scheduled to resume next week.”
The mall was one of the largest mall complexes in the country.
It includes two indoor and outdoor shopping areas, restaurants and a casino.
The post office closed in 2018 after the town lost power and lost more than 2,000 jobs.
It reopened in 2019.
The Post Exchange will reopen Friday afternoon.
The casino, however, will remain shut until further notice.
The Volsky Post Exchange has closed.
